Katy is 6!

It is hard to believe that 6 years ago Katherine Rachel was born in the oven like heat of Ft. Sill, OK. It was 113 degrees that day, hard to forget. I lived on snowcones for the last month of my pregnancy with her, and to this day haven't found a better snow cone place than the road side stand in Lawton. Katy came quick. We got to the hospital at around 3 p.m. and she entered the world at 5:22 p.m. She has been such a blessing to our lives. Being our first born, I know we have made a lot of mistakes trying to figure out what is the right and godly way of raising children. I just pray that our mistakes won't harm her. She has been such a wonderful child and such a real joy to raise. She keeps us all on our toes with her quick wit and amazing attention to detail. She hears everything too. As my mother in law says, "little pitchers have big ears" and Katy epitomises this saying.

This past weekend was not only her birthday weekend, but also her baptismal weekend. She wanted to be baptized the day after her birthday and had it all planned in usual Katy fashion. To make a long story short, Katy has been pursuing her relationship with Christ since she was four. Driving one day in Mississippi she was explaining to me that she was a Christian, and was shocked when I told her she wasn't. I proceed to explain to her that she was a sinner and what it meant to be a Christian. She really got it,and wanted to ask God to forgive her for sinning. We talked more about it and I believe this was the beginning of her walk with Christ. She continued to grow and wanted to be baptized, but we just keep quizzing her to make sure. Kris and I wanted to make sure she understood what she was "getting herself into" so to speak and didn't allow her to be baptized until now. She amazed me how she had learned the abc's to becoming a christian at vbs this year, not to mention her real grasp of spiritual concepts. She probably gets it more than most adults do! Jesus understood so much better then I, when he said let the little children come unto me. If only we could have the faith of a child and continue in that kind of faith our whole life long.

So... this has been a wonderful weekend. All three grandparents were able to take part in her birthday and baptism this past weekend and her daddy had the special honor of baptizing her. Needless to say, my cup runneth over.

Here is a look back at Katie (now Katy by her own choosing) over the years.
